Jon - I’ve always been more attracted
to The Stones than the Beatles. Undoubtedly The Beatles pushed music forward in
a way which was and will for a long time be unprecedented but The Stones raw
animal sex appeal is something that feeds my appetite for Rock & Roll. The
fantastic BBC documentary ‘Crossfire Hurricane’ shows how rebellious and
powerful The Stones were in their prime. In age saturated with authority and ideology
rock music provides a respite. No band can transport us into a world of
hedonism quite like Jagger and Co. Doom and Gloom is the Stones latest single
and not only proves they can still write World-class songs but it also provides
us with a portal into the energy of the 60's in an increasingly similar political
landscape.
Hale Bopp - Mystery Jets

Jon - Like a lot of people who were brought up in the indie revolution of the 2000s my introduction to the Mystery Jets was the avant garde Zoo Time. It then came as a surprise to me when I delved into their music to find that they were a band concerned with masterful, luscious pop records. Their latest album Radlands offers another dose of pop tracks which sound like old classics after only two or three listens. The album as a whole and Hale Bopp in particular tells the story of a Christian missionary they met on an aeroplane to Texas.

Andy -Another
band from a Radio6 Music session, Akron/Family combine an eclectic mix of
genres, mixing electro-folk with a more
grungey/noisy edge. This track is off
their latest album, SN II – The Birth and
Journey of Shinji TNT, which was leaked several times before its
release. Rather than bemoan the state of
the music industry in the modern age, the band released a mash-up remix album,
<bmbz> with the tracks from
this album with a thick, scratchy and discordant edge. This pioneering idea really endeared this
band to me, and the “remixed” album itself is a great piece of noise music.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rznkxq8-Rp0

Andy – I seem
to be a specialist in bands and tracks that I know very little about, and this
is one of them. An Israeli nine-piece funk
outfit, this track is from their second album, Attention! This track is a
very funky piece of music with nice progression. This band also did a cover of Rage Against The Machine’s number one
track, Killing In The Name Of, which
was apparently quite popular. I don’t
know what Natri Ba Makom means and I
don’t want to.

Jon – A prog-rock
Bohemian Rhapsody. Nothing else needs to be said.
