Guest Choices #3 - Thomas Jones

Home Away From Here - Touché Amoré

Hailing from Los Angeles, Touche Amore might be one of the best bands I’ve ever found. With not one song off their two studio albums being as long as 3 minutes this is easily questionable to anybody who dislikes bands that step away from ‘conventional’ song writing. However, once you realise that each 1 to 2 and a half minute track is just sheer hard-hitting new wave punk then you should notice just how good this band are.

This particular track is easily my favourite track at the moment and, bearing in mind it’s only 1:50, I have it on repeat constantly and never get bored. For me, the best thing about this track is how powerful not only the music is but also the lyrics and vocals. It really feels that the band actually put their heart and soul into writing their music and for me, that’s one of the most important things about being a musician.

 Time 2 - Ewan Dobson

Being one of this new generation of solo acoustic guitar players that CandyRat somehow discover, Ewan Dobson has seriously outdone himself here. Creating a trance song on guitar is difficult enough but the way he’s done it is so clever that as a guitarist myself, I am truly in awe at how good this guy is.

Here Comes My Man - The Gaslight Anthem

Well I wanted to be original with my choices and I did notice that Ross had already chose a Gaslight song on his 5 but this band are actually so good that I think they deserve to be on this blog more than once. This track, off the new album Handwritten, is definitely one my favourite Gaslight songs. I think the thing about this band that entices me so much is Brian Fallon’s voice. The way that he isn’t pitch perfect all the time and the fact that, in acoustic performances, his voice occasionally breaks just shows how much emotion is in every song he writes.

SBTV F64 - Mikill Pane

Well first of all I’ve got a feeling that Jon and Andy are going to be having some words with me about this one but I really like all the content he puts in this track and it’s obvious that it’s something he can relate to as in this modern age, artists such as Mikill rely heavily on sites like Youtube in order to get noticed. The combination of the famous Back In Black backing track and the lyrics that Mikill spits make this track definitely worth listening to and I heavily recommend it no matter what type of rap you’re into.

Don’t Break My Love - Nicolas Jaar

I wanted to do this track last as it might be one of the most incredible pieces of music I’ve heard. I’ve just started university and me and this guy I’ve just become friends with were chilling at his flat. He put this song on and I actually found myself being lost in the music. It is truly remarkable and this isn’t just a track that is worth listening to, it’s a track you should listen to. If you just close your eyes for a few minutes and listen you’ll find it the most relaxing minutes you’ve had in quite some time; trust me.
